Who is the customer, and what did they need?
Our customer is a renowned agricultural machinery manufacturer that supplies farms across the UK with heavy-duty equipment like aerators, cultivators and subsoilers. Known for helping farmers handle tough terrain, they pride themselves on delivering reliable, high-performing machinery all year round.
A long-standing customer of ours, they approached us in need of a bespoke rubber component for the suspension system of one of their machines.
- This part, a torsion cord on the axle, plays a critical role in the suspension system of the customer’s machinery; dampening vibration and absorbing shocks from rough terrain. Each axle uses four of them!
- With demand for their machinery high all year, they needed regular deliveries of 2,000 units per order, starting in January and continuing to December
This wasn't just about a one-off supply; they needed a reliable partner to ensure their production would run smoothly without interruptions.
What solution did Walker Rubber provide?
Luckily, this wasn’t our first rodeo! Having supplied this part to our customer for many years and with the exact extrusion profile stored in our records, we could get to work on production straight away.
Here's how we handled it:
- Material selection: We used EPDM rubber, the perfect choice for this job. It’s tough, durable and can withstand harsh weather and extreme temperature – essential for farming machinery that’s put through its paces.
- Production: We loaded the profile onto our extruder, carefully creating the rubber extrusions to the required shape and lengths.
- Quality assurance: Once extruded, the rubber lengths went into our autoclave for vulcanisation and were inspected to ensure they met the highest standards of durability and performance.
- Delivery: We worked closely with the customer to schedule regular deliveries that suited their production timeline.
